Dakar Travel Guide

Lac Rose (Lake Retba), about 35 km northeast of Dakar, is a highly saline salt lake whose water takes on a pink hue under certain lighting because of its high salt concentration and micro-organisms. It once served as the finish line of the Paris–Dakar Rally; visitors can take 4x4 mudflat tours or watch salt workers harvesting salt.

Gorée Island is a small historic island off Dakar, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for the House of Slaves and the Door of No Return, important memorials of the African slave trade, and also has a history museum and narrow, colourful streets; it is toured by ferry.
