San Martín Square is the core plaza of Córdoba's historic center, the city's heart since its founding, centered on an equestrian statue of the national hero General San Martín. On one side stand the solemn Córdoba Cathedral and the colonial Cabildo (city hall); green trees, fountains and flower beds dot the square, with arcades and cafés around. It is both the public living room for citizens to rest, gather and stroll, and the natural starting point for the old town—from the square, the cathedral, the Jesuit Block and colonial landmarks are all within steps, the central stage to feel Córdoba's history and everyday life.

Córdoba Cathedral stands on one side of Plaza San Martín and is one of Argentina's oldest Catholic churches. Construction began in the late 16th century and took more than two centuries and the hands of several architects to complete, blending Renaissance, Baroque and local craftsmanship into a distinctive style. Its massive stone façade, dome and bell tower are solemn and imposing, crowned with angel statues of local character; the richly decorated interior features frescoed domes and walls and a resplendent gilded altar. As the city's religious center and landmark, it is both a place of faith and an important stop for understanding Córdoba's colonial architecture.

The Reserva Natural de Merlo lies in the hills around the town of Merlo, San Luis province, protecting native vegetation and wildlife. With hiking trails and lookouts, it offers sweeping views of the Sierras de los Comechingones.
