This is the hometown of painter Dürer and was an important city of the Holy Roman Empire. The post-WWII Nuremberg Trials took place here, leaving a weighty historical legacy. Each Advent season, the Christkindlesmarkt at the Hauptmarkt is one of the world's most famous Christmas markets, with the aroma of gingerbread and mulled wine filling the old town.
