📍 Destination Overview
Arnhem, on the lower Rhine in the eastern Netherlands, was chartered in 1233 and once a stronghold of the Duchy of Guelders, its old town retaining medieval character round the Grote Kerk. Yet it is world-famous for Operation Market Garden, September 1944, when Allied airborne troops fought to seize the Rhine bridges; the John Frost Bridge and Airborne Museum now tell the story.
