📍 Destination Overview
Comino is a tiny island in the Maltese archipelago, lying in the channel between the main island and Gozo. Almost no one lives there permanently and there are no cars, yet it is world-famous for a breathtaking bay that has become Malta's most popular island-hopping destination-the Blue Lagoon. This shallow bay between Comino and the even smaller islet of Cominotto has some of the clearest, most stunning water in the Mediterranean: a white sandy seabed and shallow depth make the sunlight reveal crisp, pure jewel-blue and turquoise hues, like a giant natural swimming pool, almost unreal. People come by boat to swim, snorkel, dive and sunbathe in the crystal-clear water while colorful fish swim around their feet-a Mediterranean water paradise in many hearts. Besides the Blue Lagoon, the island has wild hiking trails, sea caves and an old St Mary's Tower (a Knights' watchtower). Note that in midsummer the Blue Lagoon gets very crowded; mornings or spring/autumn offer a better experience. The clear Blue Lagoon, transparent waters and island-hopping fun make Comino a Mediterranean water jewel (sea activities mostly concentrate in the warm season).
