📍 Destination Overview
Lucerne sits on the shore of Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland and is the country's most photogenic lakeside old town. The Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), built in the 14th century, is among Europe's oldest wooden bridges, with flowers along its length and the octagonal Water Tower reflected in the lake. The Lion Monument on the rock face was called by Mark Twain the most moving stone carving in the world. The old town's painted houses, medieval walls and the modern KKL concert hall make a charming mix. The azure Lake Lucerne is embraced by Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi; take a cogwheel mountain railway or a cruise to reach the snow peaks and take in the lake and mountain scenery.
