Paphos is a UNESCO ancient city on Cyprus's southwest coast, the whole city listed as World Heritage for its rich Greek and Roman ruins. Spring (Apr-Jun) and autumn (Sep-Nov) are pleasant, though midsummer is hot but the beach peak season. The Paphos Archaeological Park preserves expanses of vivid, nearly two-thousand-year-old Roman floor mosaics depicting Greek myth — among the finest preserved in the Mediterranean; by the sea east of the city, Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite's Rock) is said to be where the goddess of love and beauty was born from the foam. On the outskirts are the rock-cut Tombs of the Kings, the old harbor castle and an ancient theater. Summer is dry and hot with strong UV — bring sun protection and water; the south uses the Euro.
