📍 Destination Overview
Mrauk U, in Myanmar's western Rakhine State, was the capital of the Arakan Kingdom in the 15th-18th centuries and, with Bagan, counts among Myanmar's two great ancient cities. Once a thriving Bay of Bengal port, it preserves hundreds of stone temples blending Bengali and Burmese traditions, most famously Shitthaung and Htukkanthein, amid hills, rivers and Buddhist art.
