Lukla Travel Guide

Touch down at the famous Tenzing-Hillary airstrip and set off toward Everest Base Camp.

📍 Destination Overview

Lukla is a small Sherpa town in Solukhumbu District, Nepal, at about 2,860m, world-famous for Tenzing-Hillary Airport — often called one of the most dangerous airports on Earth, with a short runway set at the head of a valley. Almost every Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes and Three Passes trek begins here; after landing, trekkers usually descend along the Dudh Kosi valley to Phakding for their first night. Small as the town is, it is crammed with guesthouses, eateries and climbing shops, and the weather ultimately decides whether flights can land.
