Bandung Travel Guide

West Java's cool highland City of Flowers, with the sulfur wonders of White Crater, tea plantations and a colonial old town.

📍 Destination Overview

Bandung is the capital of Indonesia's West Java Province, nestled in a plateau basin about 700 meters above sea level, surrounded by volcanoes with a cool, pleasant climate. Known as the City of Flowers, it is a favorite summer retreat and weekend getaway for Jakartans. The nearby White Crater is a striking turquoise sulfur volcanic lake, wreathed in mist with fantastical colors. Layered tea plantations blanket the hillsides in verdant green. During the Dutch colonial era, Bandung was a fashion capital, and the old town retains Art Deco buildings, while today it is famous for dense factory-outlet shopping and rich cuisine. The spectacular sinkhole waterfalls, soothing hot springs and striking lava highlands make Bandung a colorful highland city.
