Laojiaotang
The Oude Kerk is Delft's oldest church, famous for its visibly leaning bell tower, affectionately called the 'Leaning Tower' by locals. This ancient church dates to the Middle Ages; as its foundations settled, the tower gradually tilted to one side yet has stood for centuries, full of character. The church is the burial place of several of Delft's historical luminaries, the most famous being the Golden Age master Johannes Vermeer—the painter of 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'—who rests here. The solemn church space, old tombstones and stained glass invite quiet reflection. When visiting, please dress appropriately and keep quiet, honoring the worthy dead who lie here with reverence and respecting this solemn place.
