Hawaii's most populous island, famous for Honolulu, Waikiki and Diamond Head.

📍 Destination Overview

Oahu, Hawaii's most populous and developed island, is nicknamed the “Gathering Place.” Honolulu holds the Iolani Palace, America's only royal palace; Waikiki Beach is world-famous beneath Diamond Head; and Pearl Harbor's Arizona Memorial marks the 1941 attack. North Shore big-wave surfing, Hanauma Bay snorkelling and the Polynesian Cultural Center round out this gateway.

Pearl Harbor
No.1 Oahu
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor, by Honolulu on Oʻahu, is where the 7 December 1941 attack drew the US into World War II. Today the National Park Service manages memorials, the most solemn being the USS Arizona Memorial—a white saddle-shaped structure spanning the sunken battleship, honouring over a thousand servicemen still aboard. Visitors cross by ferry in silence; nearby, the USS Missouri and the Bowfin submarine museum trace the arc from attack to victory. Hawaii's heaviest yet most reverent stop.
Square & Landmark
Hanauma Bay
No.2 Oahu
Hanauma Bay
Hanauma Bay is a horseshoe-shaped bay at Oahu's southeast tip formed by the collapse of a volcanic crater, named for a shape once seen as a dinosaur's profile and now a strictly protected marine reserve. In its clear shallow reefs live colorful tropical fish and turtles, making it one of the island's most popular snorkeling spots. To protect the fragile reef, the park limits entry by reservation and requires visitors to watch a conservation film first, then walk downhill from the parking lot to the beach. Early morning brings clear water and few people—the best snorkeling.
Beach & Island
No.3 Oahu
Ala Moana Beach Park
Ala Moana Beach Park sits in downtown Honolulu just west of Waikiki and is one of Oahu's most beloved waterfront retreats for local residents. The park features a wide calm shallow swimming area, fine white sand, and expansive lawns with sweeping views of the Waikiki skyline and Diamond Head. Magic Island, a man-made peninsula extending into the ocean, is the premier spot for watching Pacific sunsets and the city's annual fireworks displays. Visitors can swim, paddle kayak, or stand-up paddleboard in the calm morning water, picnic under shade trees in the afternoon, and jog along the waterfront promenade at dusk. Compared to Waikiki Beach, the crowds are smaller, the vibe more local, and admission is free, making it an ideal place to experience Honolulu's blend of urban energy and natural beauty.

Sea Life Park Hawaii
Sea Life Park Hawaii is a marine-themed park on Oahu's southeastern tip combining marine animal exhibits, interactive experiences and education. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it features dolphin shows, sea turtle exhibits, Hawaiian monk seals and unique marine animal interactions — a family-friendly marine education and entertainment destination on Oahu. Located on Oahu's southeast coast in Waimanalo, backed by the Ko'olau Mountains and facing the blue Pacific. Exhibits include the Dolphin Lagoon for dolphin shows and interactions, Hawaiian green sea turtle exhibits, Hawaiian monk seal exhibits (among the world's most endangered seals), a shark pool, seabird habitat and a coral reef aquarium. The park offers paid dolphin swim/interaction experiences popular with families. The lagoon and beach areas offer views of Oahu's east coast. Visiting Sea Life Park for dolphin interactions and learning about Hawaii's marine ecology is a joyful, educational Oahu experience.

Haiku Stairs
Haiku Stairs, the 'Stairway to Heaven', is a steel stairway of about 3,922 steps climbing the Ko'olau Range ridge on Oahu, built in WWII for a military communications station and later abandoned. Closed unofficially since 1987 due to danger and neighborhood opposition, trespassing brings fines; official reopening talks are ongoing and legal tours may one day return.

No.6 Oahu
Aloha Tower, Oahu
The Aloha Tower is the iconic clock tower of Honolulu Harbor, built in 1926 and once Hawaii's tallest building, the first sight greeting arriving passengers by sea — its 'Aloha' lettering a symbol of the islands. The surrounding Aloha Tower Marketplace is now a waterfront district of dining, shopping and cruise piers; the tower deck surveys the harbor and downtown.
