Chitwan National Park is a UNESCO subtropical jungle reserve in southern Nepal's lowlands (Terai) at only ~150 m. Nepal's first national park and one of Asia's best-preserved lowland jungle ecosystems, it shows the warm, wild side of the Himalayan nation; the dry season Oct–Mar is cool with sparse grass — best for wildlife (hot and rainy in midsummer). It has dense jungle, elephant-grass plains, rivers and wetlands sheltering the iconic endangered one-horned rhino (good chance of close views), the mighty Bengal tiger, Asian elephants, crocodiles and hundreds of birds. Take a jeep into the jungle to track wildlife, drift by traditional canoe to watch crocodiles and birds, walk the jungle, visit the elephant breeding center and Tharu villages for indigenous culture. Bring repellent, go with a guide and follow rules.
