📍 Destination Overview
Lake Bunyonyi lies in southwestern Uganda near the Rwandan border, a volcanic crater lake sitting at an altitude of about 1,962 metres with a mild, cool climate throughout the year. Its name translates to the place of many little birds, and its calm surface is dotted with 29 green islands. The water is clear and safe to swim - free of crocodiles and hippos. Known for canoeing between terraced islands, birdwatching (including the grey-crowned crane), easy island nature walks and quiet village life, it is often enjoyed as a relaxing add-on after gorilla trekking.
