The Church of St. George preserves the 6th-century, oldest surviving mosaic map of the Holy Land — extremely precious; the city's churches and archaeological park are paved with Byzantine mosaics. Nearby Mount Nebo is said to be where Moses gazed upon and was laid to rest in the Promised Land, and from its summit you can look out over the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley. About 45 minutes from Amman, it is often combined with a Dead Sea day trip.
