Nurata Travel Guide

Among the sacred springs and old fortress at the foot of the Nuratau mountains, feel the quiet of a Central Asian Silk Road town.

📍 Destination Overview

Nurata is an ancient small town in the Navoiy region of Uzbekistan, set at the foot of the Nuratau Mountains beside the Kyzyl Kum desert. Its heart is the sacred Chashma spring complex, believed to have welled up where a camel of a prophet of Islam stepped, and reckoned among Central Asia's oldest and most revered holy sites, ringed by the Juma mosque and a high-domed 16-metre mosque. Nearby lie the ruins of a fortress legendarily built by Alexander the Great. From here you can explore mountain villages or camp in yurts - a quiet stop on a Silk Road itinerary.
