Mdina is Malta’s ancient capital atop a plateau, fully encircled by walls and known as the Silent City for its tranquility; spring (Apr–Jun) and autumn (Sep–Oct) are most comfortable. Inside the city there are almost no cars, and along the maze-like cobbled lanes stand honey-golden medieval and Baroque noble mansions — silent and mysterious; from the bastions you can overlook the whole island of Malta, especially beautiful at dusk. It was a filming site for King’s Landing in Game of Thrones season one. Often visited together with Rabat (St. Paul’s Catacombs) outside the city.
