Introduction
Miro's Chicago is a striking outdoor sculpture in downtown Chicago by the Spanish Surrealist master Joan Miro, dedicated in 1981 and located in Brunswick Plaza between Washington and Wabash. The bronze sculpture stands about 39 feet tall, rendered in Miro's signature organic abstract form, incorporating motifs such as birds, women, the moon, and stars, with vivid colors contrasting against black bronze. Commissioned by the First National Bank of Chicago (now Sara Lee Plaza), it is one of Miro's most important public art commissions in the United States. Standing amid the Loop's modernist towers, it injects poetry and playfulness into the austere architectural ensemble, a beloved piece of Chicago's public art collection and a popular photo spot for locals and visitors.
