Introduction
The Vincent Thomas Bridge is a landmark suspension bridge in the San Pedro district of Los Angeles, spanning the Los Angeles Harbor to connect San Pedro with Terminal Island. Opened to traffic in 1963, the bridge features a main span of 457 meters (1,500 feet), making it the fourth longest suspension bridge in California and one of the few bridges on the West Coast painted in a distinctive green color. The bridge is named after California State Assemblyman Vincent Thomas, who long championed harbor district development during his tenure. Its deck carries four traffic lanes along with a dedicated bicycle path and pedestrian walkway, offering an excellent vantage point for viewing sunsets over the Los Angeles Harbor and the container terminal scenery. After dark, the bridge is softly illuminated, blending with the lights of moored ships to create a captivating harbor nightscape.
