Introduction
Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park lies near Agua Dulce in northern Los Angeles County, covering 932 acres and managed by LA County Parks. The park is famed for spectacular tilted sedimentary rock formations, jagged sandstone strata thrust at 45-degree angles formed by tectonic activity about 25 million years ago, one of Southern California's most recognisable geological wonders. The rocks take their name from the Mexican outlaw Tiburcio Vasquez who hid here in 1874. A popular Hollywood location, the park has appeared in the original Star Trek series and several sequels, The Lone Ranger, Bonanza and dozens of other productions. Multiple hiking trails, equestrian paths and picnic areas make it a must-visit for geology enthusiasts, photographers and film pilgrims.
