Introduction
Curt Gowdy State Park lies about 24 miles west of Cheyenne in the foothills of the Laramie Range, covering 1,933 acres and named after former Wyoming governor and famed sportscaster Curt Gowdy. Managed by Wyoming State Parks, it spans three ecological zones - foothills montane, montane forest and high plains prairie - producing remarkable diversity of flora, fauna and landforms. Happy Jack and Granite Springs reservoirs offer trout fishing, kayaking and swimming, while more than 35 miles of mountain bike and hiking trails make it a Front Range outdoor sports hub. Winter brings snowshoeing and cross-country skiing; summer and fall invite camping, horseback riding and birding, making the park a natural backyard escape for Cheyenne residents.
