Introduction
Gracie Mansion is the official residence of the Mayor of New York City, located in Carl Schurz Park along the East River on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Built in 1799, it is a Federal-style historic house designed by architect John McComb Jr., featuring a graceful gray and white wooden facade and ranking among the oldest buildings in New York City. Since 1942 it has served as the official mayoral residence, with several mayors living and hosting dignitaries here. The mansion is surrounded by elegant gardens with views of the East River and Hell Gate Bridge. Guided tours are offered periodically, allowing visitors to see historic interiors, fine furnishings and reception rooms and learn about New York civic history.
