Lyon Arboretum
Introduction
Lyon Arboretum is located in Manoa Valley on the island of Oahu, affiliated with the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It is a treasure house for tropical plant research and conservation. Covering nearly 200 acres with elevation ranging from 500 to 1800 feet, the arboretum houses over 5000 tropical plant species and is one of the largest tropical botanical gardens in the United States. The garden features a Hawaiian plants section, palm collection, fern valley and economic plants area, showcasing native endangered Hawaiian plants and Pacific island endemic species. Trails through the valley lead past rainforest, streams and waterfalls, making it a paradise for hikers and botanists and a peaceful retreat from Waikiki.
