Introduction
Jones Beach State Park is the most famous and spectacular beach on Long Island's south shore, developed in the 1930s by Robert Moses and hailed as a masterpiece of Moses public works. The Atlantic-facing beach stretches about 6 miles and is one of the widest in the NYC area, with sand extending over 100 yards deep at its widest. The park's iconic features are the majestic Jones Beach Boardwalk and Art Deco water tower, 231 feet tall and shaped like an obelisk, a Long Island landmark. The 2-mile boardwalk has gazebos, changing rooms, restaurants, and amusement areas. The park also has the Jones Beach Theater outdoor venue hosting major summer concerts and music festivals.
