Introduction
Fort Tilden Beach is located at the western tip of the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, New York, a pristine beach hidden within a former military base, hailed as one of NYC's most secret seaside spots. The beach was once a Cold War anti-aircraft missile base; after the military left in the 1990s, it was transferred to the National Park Service and is now part of Gateway National Recreation Area. Unlike other NYC beaches, there are no commercial facilities, no lifeguards, no boardwalk, and no food stands, only pure sand, dunes, and ocean views. The beach requires a 15-minute walk from the parking lot along a sandy path, filtering out crowds and preserving a pristine peaceful atmosphere. The Atlantic-facing beach has fine soft sand and is an unofficial nude sunbathing spot in summer.
