Introduction
Astroland was a landmark amusement park on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, opening in 1962 and once one of the most representative seaside amusement parks on the U.S. East Coast. The park's most famous ride is the Cyclone wooden roller coaster built in 1927, listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and one of the oldest wooden coasters still operating. Named after a space theme, Astroland once featured the Astro Tower observation ride, Break Dancer, and several classic American rides. Coney Island also hosts the famous Wonder Wheel Ferris wheel and the 1920s carousel, symbols of New York's summer seaside culture. Astroland was later operated under the Luna Park brand, but the Cyclone remains a New York landmark.
