Introduction

The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, Florida, was the residence of Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway from 1931 to 1939. The 1851 Spanish Colonial house was a gift from the uncle of Hemingway's second wife Pauline, and Hemingway wrote portions of his work here while installing Key West's first in-ground pool. The home's most famous current residents are about sixty polydactyl (six-toed) cats, descendants of a cat given to Hemingway by a ship captain friend.
