Introduction

The Dallas Museum of Art, located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas, is one of the largest art museums in the United States, founded in 1903, housed in a building designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes expanded in 2003, with a 2013 Norman Foster addition connecting to Klyde Warren Park. The museum collection includes over 25,000 works spanning from ancient Egyptian artifacts of 3000 BCE to contemporary art, covering European painting, American art, Asian art, African art, and modern and contemporary art. The most famous is the Wendy and Emery Reves collection of ancient American art, one of the world's most important pre-Columbian art collections. The museum offers free admission to its permanent collection, with tickets required for temporary exhibitions, one of the few large U.S. art museums with free major collection access. The museum also has an interactive art learning center and sculpture garden, a Dallas cultural landmark suitable for families and culture lovers alike.
