Introduction

The California Museum in downtown Sacramento is the official history and culture museum of the State of California, dedicated to telling the complete story of California from Native American civilizations to its modern identity as a technology capital. Proposed by First Lady Maria Shriver and opened in 1998, the museum presents California's diverse culture, innovative spirit, and unique contributions through 12 core exhibits. The most prominent is the California Hall of Fame, curated by Shriver herself, which annually inducts individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to California, including Steve Jobs, John Muir, Julia Morgan, and Billie Jean King. The California Stories of Immigration exhibit uses artifacts, videos, and oral histories to tell the journey of various ethnic groups seeking dreams in California, embodying the immigrant spirit. The Innovation exhibit showcases the Silicon Valley tech revolution and California's pioneering contributions to environmental protection and healthcare. The building blends historic architecture with modern expansion, forming a key part of Sacramento's cultural corridor alongside the State Capitol and Railroad Museum.
