This small public airport sits at 4,500 feet elevation on a tabletop mesa, jokingly called one of America most dangerous airports due to its mountaintop location, though its runway is safe and reliable, mainly serving small private planes and sightseeing flights. The airport viewing area is open to the public, with the parking lot offering 360-degree views of Sedona and surrounding red rock formations. The view differs entirely from looking up at the rocks from town - from above, red rock spires scatter across the green valley like sleeping red castles, with Verde Valley extending under blue sky. Sunset is the most magical time, when the setting sun paints the rocks in deeper reds and gold. A small restaurant beside the airport offers dining with panoramic red rock views.
