The Maze

Introduction

The Maze is the most remote and rugged geological wonder area within Canyonlands National Park in Utah, formed by a network of high plateau canyons carved over millions of years by the Colorado and Green Rivers, named for its maze-like complexity. Located in the northwest section of the park, the Maze requires a long drive over high plateau dirt roads to reach, with no paved roads, making it the most difficult to access yet most adventure-worthy area of Canyonlands. The area features the Needles spire rock group, the Land of Standing Rocks and other bizarre sandstone formations, as well as ancient Puebloan petroglyph sites. It remains in a nearly pristine wilderness state, serving as a destination for advanced off-road driving, long-distance hiking, and backcountry camping that requires thorough preparation and experience to explore safely.
