Grand Canyon West Rim

Introduction

Grand Canyon West is the section of the Grand Canyon closest to Las Vegas, managed by the Hualapai Tribe. Famous for the Grand Canyon Skywalk — a U-shaped glass-bottomed observation bridge cantilevered over the canyon rim — it is the most accessible Grand Canyon experience from Las Vegas, ideal for visitors with limited time. About 2.5 hours from Las Vegas, it differs from the National Park sections (South/North Rim) in being tribally managed with separate admission. The star attraction is the Skywalk, opened in 2007, extending about 21 m (70 ft) over the rim with a transparent glass floor about 1,200 m (4,000 ft) above the canyon floor — thrilling and iconic (included in some ticket types, extra in others). Beyond the Skywalk, Eagle Point (named for its eagle-shaped rock, home to the Skywalk) and Guano Point — a promontory offering 360-degree canyon panoramas and considered the best natural viewpoint at Grand Canyon West — are highlights. Helicopter and boat experiences are also offered by the tribe. Visiting Grand Canyon West, walking the thrilling Skywalk and admiring the canyon views is a classic Grand Canyon trip from Las Vegas.
