Introduction
The Cathedral of the Madeleine stands at the corner of South Temple and 100 East in downtown Salt Lake City, completed in 1909 and serving as the mother church of the Diocese of Salt Lake City as well as one of the city's finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture. The facade is built of Utah sandstone with twin soaring towers, a rose window, and exquisite stained glass, while the interior vaulting, marble altar, and carved wooden pulpit reflect European medieval craftsmanship. The cathedral was built under the first bishop of Salt Lake City, Lawrence Scanlan, and is dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene. Beyond serving Catholic worshippers, the cathedral is open to the public for visits and concerts, with regular organ recitals and choral performances, offering a serene place to experience Salt Lake City's religious diversity and architectural art.
