Introduction
Grant Park, on the eastern edge of downtown Chicago along Lake Michigan, covers about 130 hectares and is known as Chicago front yard, the city most important green lung and public event space. Named for the 18th U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant, it has been the core venue for Chicago leisure, celebration, and protest gatherings since mid-19th-century planning. The park holds several landmarks: Buckingham Fountain at the north end is the visual centerpiece, a Versailles-inspired giant fountain shooting 50-meter jets hourly with evening color light shows in summer, Chicago most romantic scene. Millennium Park connects to the north, gathering public art icons like Cloud Gate and Crown Fountain. The Museum Campus at the south end hosts the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium. Each summer the park hosts Taste of Chicago and Lollapalooza, drawing millions. Broad lawns, shaded walks, and the lakefront trail are a paradise for jogging, cycling, and picnics, while winter brings an ice rink and Christmas market with their own charm.
