Introduction

The High Line is a linear elevated park on Manhattan's West Side transformed from a disused freight rail trestle, hailed worldwide as a model of industrial heritage reuse. The roughly 1.45-mile green ribbon runs from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street about nine meters above ground, planted with more than 300 native species interwoven with preserved steel rails to form a unique rail-prairie landscape. Designed by James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the first section opened in 2009 and quickly became one of New York's most beloved public spaces.
