Introduction
Old South Church is a landmark religious building in Boston's Back Bay, completed in 1874 by architects Charles Amos Cummings and Willard T. Sears in Gothic Revival style using Roxbury sandstone. The church belongs to the United Church of Christ and is one of Boston's oldest religious communities, with its congregation tracing back to the 1669 Old South Meeting House. The most striking features are the 69-meter stone tower and fine stained-glass windows; the soaring interior hosts organ concerts, community events and public talks. Adjacent to Copley Square, the church joins the John Hancock Tower and Boston Public Library in one of the city's most iconic architectural ensembles.
