Introduction
One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, standing on the site of the original World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. It is the central symbol of New York's reconstruction and resilience after the September 11 attacks. Designed by architect David Childs, the tower rises to a symbolic height of 1,776 feet (about 541 meters), echoing the year of American independence. The sleek glass curtain wall tapers gradually into an octagon as it rises, culminating in a crystalline spire pointing to the sky. The One World Observatory on the 94th floor takes visitors up in a 60-second high-speed elevator for a 360-degree panoramic view of New York, New Jersey, and as far as the Atlantic Ocean. Interactive city guide screens let visitors identify landmark buildings. The building connects to the Oculus transit hub.
