Introduction
Descanso Gardens is one of Los Angeles's most elegant botanical gardens, covering about 60 hectares and donated in 1953 by Manchester Estate owner E. Manchester Descanso. The garden is famous for its camellia collection, with over 30,000 camellia trees blooming through winter and spring amid oak groves and azalea beds. Boddy House, a 1937 Mediterranean Revival residence, overlooks the San Gabriel Valley. The rose garden peaks in spring, while the Japanese garden offers a serene Zen space. A small art gallery and the seasonal "Enchanted Forest of Light" installation round out the offerings, making it a popular weekend destination for Los Angeles families.
