Introduction
The 1712 Ebenezer Clough House is one of the oldest surviving residential buildings in Charlestown, Boston. Built by early colonist Ebenezer Clough, this two-story timber frame house survived the artillery of the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill, with musket ball holes still visible in the boards. After independence the house changed hands several times, serving as a tavern and worker lodging in the 19th century. Following a rescue restoration in the 1980s, it is now managed by the Charlestown Preservation Society and furnished to early 18th-century appearance. Inside, visitors see colonial furniture, tableware and Clough family documents, while guides recount the transformation of Charlestown from colony to battlefield, making it a precious tangible link to Boston's early history.
