Introduction

The Gamble House in Pasadena is a masterpiece of the American Arts and Crafts movement, designed by architects Greene & Greene in 1908 for Procter & Gamble heir David Hutchisson Gamble and dubbed the 'ultimate bungalow'. Built largely of redwood with fine hand joinery and Japanese-inspired aesthetics, it features mahogany, ebony and hidden furniture woven into the living space. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966, it also appeared as a filming set for 'Back to the Future'.
