Introduction
Crissy Field lies inside the historic Presidio east of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco; from the 1910s to the 1970s it was a military airfield. After the runways closed, the site was restored as a waterfront park of golden sand (East Beach), marsh (Crissy Marsh) and the Golden Gate Promenade, facing the bridge and ranking among the world's best kite-surfing beaches. A flat ~2.3-mile promenade reaches the Warming Hut cafe, with long views of the bay, bridge and Alcatraz and resident waterbirds along the way.
