Proxy Project
Introduction
PROXY SF is a temporary two-block public space in Hayes Valley, San Francisco, centered on renovated shipping containers and launched in 2011 by Envelope A+D. Mobile container shops and art installations rotate through former empty lots, hosting tenants such as Ritual Coffee, Smitten Ice Cream and a biergarten, along with rotating murals, farmers markets and outdoor movies. It acts as a temporary placeholder that activates high-value idle land into a cultural hub.
