Introduction

Ping Tom Memorial Park lies on a former rail-yard site on the South Branch of the Chicago River, south of Chinatown, designed by Ernest C. Wong with its first phase completed in 1999 and named for notable Chinatown businessman and civic leader Ping Tom. The roughly 12-17 acre riverside park features a pagoda-style pavilion, bamboo gardens, playgrounds and a riverfront promenade with skyline and historic bridge views. Summer brings the Chicago Water Taxi and dragon-boat races, and mural panels such as 'All as One' under the 18th Street Bridge add artistic character.
