Introduction

The Skirball Cultural Center at 2701 North Sepulveda Boulevard in Brentwood, Los Angeles, opened in 1996 as a cultural complex where Jewish heritage, American democratic ideals and diverse contemporary art meet. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the buildings step down a hillside among gardens and landscape. Its centerpiece "Noah's Ark at the Skirball" is a giant wooden ark built for climbing and interactive family exploration; the museum also presents gallery exhibitions on Jewish history and special artist shows, along with lectures, music and performances.
