Introduction

Coney Island is a peninsula at the southern tip of Brooklyn jutting into the Atlantic Ocean, a seaside world utterly different from skyscraper Manhattan. Its broad sandy beach runs about two and a half miles from West 37th Street, served along its whole length by the famous Riegelmann Boardwalk, the inspiration for the 1964 song "Under the Boardwalk."
