Introduction

Tamsui Old Street lies in Tamsui District, New Taipei, Taiwan, China, a century-old waterfront quarter by the mouth of the Tamsui River, famed for its markets, street food and heritage buildings along Zhongzheng and Gongming streets. Once a key northern Taiwan port, it preserves relics of colonial and coastal-defense history such as Fort San Domingo (the Red Hair Castle), the Little White House and Hobe Fort. The riverside Fisherman's Wharf and Lover's Bridge are favorite sunset spots. Stroll for yuwan (fish balls), agei, iron eggs and sour-plum drinks, take a ferry across to Bali, or walk the riverbank as the Tamsui River flows into the Taiwan Strait in golden light.
