Introduction

Montreal's Olympic Stadium was the main venue for the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics; its signature is a giant tower about 165 m high leaning toward the stadium—the Montreal Tower, the world's tallest leaning structure, full of futuristic sculptural feel. Visitors ride a funicular climbing the outside of the inclined tower to the top observatory, overlooking the whole city of Montreal, the St. Lawrence River and distant mountains—excellent views. The stadium and surrounding Olympic Park also have the Biosphere and Botanical Garden, forming a large leisure-culture district. This tower venue, witnessing Olympic glory with a unique shape, is a landmark of Montreal's modern architecture and sports history.
