Introduction
The memorial ferry 'Mashū-maru' is a retired vessel moored at Hakodate Port and run as a museum. It once shuttled passengers and freight between Hakodate and Aomori as the workhorse of the Seikan ferry era; after the Seikan Tunnel opened in 1988 it was retired and preserved in place to honour the age of 'sea connection'. Aboard you can see the captain's bridge, engine room and period cabin fittings.
