Introduction
Kofuku-ji, founded in 1620 by the Chinese monk Shin'en with support of Jiangsu-Zhejiang merchants, is Nagasaki's oldest Chinese temple, known as the 'Nanjing temple' and now Obaku Zen. The Daiyuhoden (1632, rebuilt 1883) is an Important Cultural Property, as is the relocated gate of the old Chinese quarter; Ingen became its 4th abbot in 1654, bringing Ingen beans and sencha to Japan.
