Introduction
The Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery on the Yamate hills began in 1854 with the burial of a Perry-fleet sailor. About 4,800 foreigners from some 40 countries rest here, among them railway pioneer Edmund Morel and girls' educator Mary Kidder. Overlooking the harbour and loved for its cherry blossoms, the grounds include a free museum.
